General presentation |

17 Duke's Road is a converted Victorian drill hall building that we have occupied since 1969. The Place is the UK's premier centre for contemporary dance, uniting training, creation and performance in one unique building. London Contemporary Dance School is one of the world's leading conservatoires, offering vocational training in contemporary dance and ballet to the highest technical and artistic standards. Our student body is drawn from across the world, and we are proud of the diversity and vibrancy that this creates. The Robin Howard Dance Theatre, named after the founder of The Place, is the UK's busiest dance venue, with over 250 companies from the UK and abroad performing new and experimental works every year in our 300 seat venue. Based at The Place, Richard Alston Dance Company is one of the UK's most acclaimed companies, touring throughout the country and overseas. Alston choreographed his first work in 1968 as one of the original students at LCDT. Since its launch in 1994 the company has been nominated for two South Bank Show Awards and a National Dance Award.
